An herb used in Chinese medicine the “following Astragals” contains a chemical that could be used to complement the anti-retroviral therapy or even replace, suggested Rita Effros, member of the UCLA AIDS Institute, which made the discovery.

The Astragals has long been used in the traditional Chinese medicine, generally in combination with other herbs, in order to strengthen the immune system and is still widely used in China for the treatment of chronic hepatitis and as adjuvant therapy for patients with cancer.
