Meditation and melatonin

Many people feel that the practice of meditation has positive effects for the health as the improvement of the energy and the tranquility of the mind, but there is also a preliminary research suggests that the meditation stimulates the levels of melatonin, a hormone that helps to regulate the dream and it seems influence other hormones in the body.

The melatonin is produced by the pineal gland of the brain and the philosopher Rene Descartes called this small gland “the seat of the soul”, as well as in the spiritual tradition Hindu, meditation techniques are used to direct the flow of energy through seven energy centers in the body or Chakra, to activate or suppress selectively glands.

The pineal gland corresponds with a Chakra located at the top of the head, called “Crown” and is believed to have a direct influence on the happiness. Read the rest of this entry »
