Meditation and melatonin
Many people feel that the practice of meditation has positive effects for the health as the improvement of the energy and the tranquility of the mind, but there is also a preliminary research suggests that the meditation stimulates the levels of melatonin, a hormone that helps to regulate the dream and it seems influence other hormones in the body.
The melatonin is produced by the pineal gland of the brain and the philosopher Rene Descartes called this small gland “the seat of the soul”, as well as in the spiritual tradition Hindu, meditation techniques are used to direct the flow of energy through seven energy centers in the body or Chakra, to activate or suppress selectively glands.
The pineal gland corresponds with a Chakra located at the top of the head, called “Crown” and is believed to have a direct influence on the happiness.
The relationship between scientific melatonin and meditation was explored in 1995 by researchers at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in a program on stress reduction and relaxation.
The researchers found that women participating in the study, which had thought took melatonin levels significantly higher, compared with women who did not.
Another study found that the meditation before bedtime increases the levels of the melatonin for the night, not having produced this increase when the participants of the study, not reflected before going to sleep, for which this suggests that the regular practice of meditation is necessary, to obtain a dream repairer.
